Purpose: This scholarly paper aims to conduct an in-depth exploratory case study of Pernod Ricard, a global leader in the wines and spirits industry, by examining its historical evolution, strategic growth, premiumization strategy, financial performance, marketing practices, sustainability initiatives, and organizational governance. Using comprehensive business frameworks such as SWOC, ABCD, PESTLE, financial analysis, marketing analysis, and human resource management analysis, the study evaluates the company's internal strengths, external challenges, competitive positioning, and long-term sustainability. The research seeks to generate practical insights into how Pernod Ricard has maintained global leadership while adapting to changing consumer preferences, regulatory environments, and digital transformation.
Methodology: The study adopts an exploratory qualitative case study approach. Secondary data have been collected through systematic keyword-based searches using Google Scholar, company reports, academic books, business case studies, and other credible open-access sources. The collected information has been critically analyzed and interpreted using established strategic management frameworks to provide a comprehensive understanding of Pernod Ricard's business operations and competitive performance.
Analysis & Result: The analysis reveals that Pernod Ricard's diversified premium brand portfolio, acquisition-led expansion strategy, decentralized organizational structure, and commitment to sustainability have significantly strengthened its global competitive position. However, the company continues to face challenges arising from strict alcohol regulations, changing consumer lifestyles, supply chain disruptions, and increasing competition. The study recommends strengthening digital consumer engagement, expanding sustainable packaging initiatives, enhancing data-driven marketing capabilities, accelerating innovation in premium products, and reinforcing responsible consumption programs to sustain long-term growth and stakeholder trust.
Originality/Value: This paper provides a holistic and multidimensional company analysis of Pernod Ricard by integrating strategic management theories with real-world organizational practices. It contributes valuable insights into how multinational beverage companies create sustainable competitive advantage through premiumization, international expansion, innovation, and responsible business practices. The study serves as a useful reference for researchers, academicians, business managers, policymakers, and students interested in company analysis, international business, and the global wines and spirits industry.
