Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to comprehensively analyze the biotechnology industry by examining its current trends, market dynamics, technological advancements, and future outlook. It focuses on understanding the impact of innovations such as artificial intelligence, genomics, personalized medicine, and biopharmaceuticals, while evaluating the role of government policies, investment patterns, stakeholder perspectives, and regulatory frameworks. The study also identifies the opportunities and challenges influencing the growth, sustainability, and global competitiveness of the biotechnology industry, with particular emphasis on the Indian biotechnology ecosystem.

Methodology: The study adopts exploratory research approach based entirely on secondary data. An extensive review of academic literature, industry reports, government publications, and published research articles was undertaken to examine the biotechnology sector. Multiple strategic analytical frameworks, including SWOC (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Challenges), ABCD (Advantages, Benefits, Constraints, Disadvantages), and PESTLE (Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Environmental, Legal) analyses, were employed to evaluate both internal and external factors influencing the industry. Stakeholder perspectives including biotechnology companies, researchers, healthcare providers, policymakers, investors, and consumers were integrated to assess the implications of technological adoption, particularly Artificial Intelligence, across biotechnology operations.

Results & Analysis: The findings reveal that technological innovations such as Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, genomics, gene editing, bioinformatics, and personalized medicine are transforming the biotechnology industry by accelerating drug discovery, improving diagnostic accuracy, enhancing clinical trials, optimizing biomanufacturing processes, and enabling precision healthcare. The SWOC and ABCD analyses indicate that the industry possesses significant strengths in innovation, research capabilities, and market growth potential while facing challenges related to regulatory complexity, ethical concerns, cybersecurity, high research costs, data privacy, and shortages of skilled professionals. The PESTLE analysis further highlights that supportive government initiatives, increasing investments, sustainability concerns, and rapid technological developments are major drivers shaping the industry's future growth and competitiveness.

Originality/Value: This study provides a comprehensive and integrated assessment of the biotechnology industry by combining industry trend analysis with multiple strategic evaluation frameworks and stakeholder perspectives. Unlike conventional industry reviews, it establishes a multidimensional understanding by linking technological advancements, Artificial Intelligence adoption, regulatory developments, market dynamics, sustainability considerations, and innovation strategies within a single analytical framework. The research offers a holistic perspective on both current developments and the future direction of the biotechnology industry.
