Purpose: This study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), one of India’s most prominent capital-market institutions, with a focus on its organizational structure, business model, financial performance, technological development, marketing approach, and competitive position. The study seeks to understand how BSE creates value for market participants, responds to changing financial-market dynamics, and strengthens its position in an increasingly technology-driven and competitive environment.
Methodology: The study adopts an exploratory qualitative case study approach based entirely on secondary data. Information from relevant reports, published literature, institutional sources, and other credible secondary materials is examined to develop an integrated understanding of BSE. Analytical frameworks including SWOC analysis, ABCD analysis, financial analysis, competitor comparison, technological strategy analysis, marketing analysis, and human resource analysis are employed to evaluate the organization from multiple strategic and operational perspectives.
Analysis & Suggestions: The analysis highlights BSE’s strong brand legacy, established market infrastructure, diversified financial-market services, and significant role in India’s capital-market ecosystem. The study also identifies key challenges, including intense competition, technological disruption, cybersecurity risks, regulatory changes, and the need to strengthen trading activity and investor participation. Based on these findings, strategic suggestions emphasize technological advancement, cybersecurity, market diversification, investor education, digital innovation, stronger liquidity, and expansion of new financial products to enhance BSE’s competitiveness and long-term growth.
Originality / Value: The study offers an integrated perspective of BSE by connecting financial, strategic, technological, marketing, organizational, and competitive dimensions within a single company-level analysis. By combining established analytical frameworks with the practical realities of a major Indian stock exchange, the research provides a structured understanding of BSE’s strengths, limitations, opportunities, and future strategic direction. The study contributes both academic value for understanding capital-market institutions and practical insights into strengthening competitiveness in India’s evolving financial ecosystem.
