Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this industry analysis is to conduct a comprehensive study of the Information Technology (IT) industry in India by examining its evolution, current landscape, growth drivers, challenges, and future opportunities. The study aims to evaluate the industry's contribution to economic development, digital transformation, employment generation, and technological innovation using strategic analytical frameworks such as SWOC, ABCD, and PESTLE. The research further seeks to provide insights into the strategic factors influencing the competitiveness, sustainability, and long-term growth of the Indian IT industry.

Methodology: This qualitative exploratory industry analysis is based on data collected from credible secondary sources, including government reports, industry publications, company reports, scholarly journal articles indexed in Google Scholar, research databases, and other authentic online sources. The collected information is systematically analysed using established strategic frameworks such as SWOC Analysis, ABCD Analysis, and PESTLE Analysis to evaluate the internal strengths and weaknesses of the industry alongside the external opportunities and environmental factors influencing its development.

Result/Analysis: The analysis reveals that the Indian IT industry has emerged as one of the major contributors to national economic growth, employment generation, digital innovation, and global service exports. The application of SWOC, ABCD, and PESTLE analyses indicates that the industry possesses significant strengths, including a skilled workforce, technological expertise, and strong global competitiveness, while also facing challenges such as cybersecurity risks, talent shortages, regulatory complexities, and rapid technological changes. The study further identifies emerging opportunities in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, digital transformation, and government-led digital initiatives, highlighting the industry's potential for sustained growth and innovation.

Originality/Value: The originality of this industry analysis lies in its comprehensive multi-framework evaluation of the Indian IT industry using SWOC, ABCD, and PESTLE analyses. The study provides an integrated understanding of the industry's strategic environment, enabling academicians, researchers, policymakers, business professionals, and industry stakeholders to better understand the opportunities, challenges, and future prospects of the sector. The research also serves as a valuable reference for strategic decision-making and future industry studies.
